MORE ABOUT SHAMAIYE
Shamaiye started her journey to improve Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools in 2016 when two of her children were enrolled in a Title 1 school on the west side of Charlotte. She saw first hand how the disparities and the achievement gaps are stifling to communities of low social economic status. She started The Charlotte Community Think Tank to examine solutions to the complex issues and to uplift the community's voice.
She is running to create change at the school level where the lives of families and children are most impacted. We must partner with parents and every facet of our community to develop a high performing school system that will chart a path for success for every child. |
Shamaiye is Committed to the 4 C's
Commitment
Every great endeavor starts with commitment. Shamaiye's commitment is to listen, care and connect with parents, teachers, students, leaders, and neighborhoods.
Community
Schools should be the center of a community and neighbors should see their school as an asset and a place not only where robust learning is taking place but also a hub for community support and vision.
Change
Changes are necessary to improve the education outcomes and experiences for families and the children in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. A culture shift is needed so that we are working together to save public education and our schools system locally.
Care
Shamaiye cares tremendously about the future of public schools and increasing achievement for our students.
